About

This is a look into my story, aesthetic, work experience, and my burning reasons for making films and series as a producer. It also offers a glimpse into my collaborators whom I feel honored to work with and learn from.

I welcome connecting with filmmakers, cinephiles, writers, executives, agents and financiers to turn our vital stories into entertainment that is also extraordinary art.

I believe

“The Arts can move us to another vantage point that is different from where we came from and illuminates just enough for us to get our footing and grapple with it. With film, we get to feel as though we’re experiencing it through multiple characters. When we recognize ourselves in them, including our own darkness, the greatness of our compassion blooms. With it, so does our ability to heal as a society composed of many cultures, races, abilities, gender — all as equally respected parts of the whole.” – Sarah Connors

Education

I earned my B.A. in English Literature, with honors at Washington University in St. Louis, where I found my passion for filmmaking creating short films and taking film criticism classes watching classics like Francoise Truffaut’s The 400 Blows, and Jules and Jim, Ingmar Bergman’s Wild Strawberries, Peter Weir’s Picnic at Hanging Rock, Terrence Malick’s Badlands, Errol Morris’s Thin Blue Line, and Diane Kury’s Entre Nous.

After receiving my M.F.A. from N.Y.U.’s Tisch Graduate Film/TV program, I worked on film crews, and became part of writer/director John Sayles and producing partner Maggie Renzi’s independent film company Anarchist Convention, working under their tutelage for five years as an associate producer and post supervisor.

NYC as home base

When I started having children, I stayed local in NYC, and had the good fortune to post supervise the films of such innovative filmmakers as Kasi Lemmons, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Noah Baumbach, Ira Sachs, Barry Levinson, Amy Talkington, Geoffrey Fletcher, Henry-Alex Rubin, Bruce Beresford, Susan Seidelman, Curtis Hanson, Robert Altman, and David Mamet.

My Film and Art

Community

I’m a guest speaker for NYU Graduate & Undergraduate Film, and Brooklyn College Graduate and Undergraduate Film. Member of NYWIFT and The Gotham. Advisory Board Member since 2016 of Have Art Will Travel created by artist and activist Linda Stein. Jury Panelist for the Cynopsis Media Awards 2016-2018, and for the 2019 SUNY Statewide Film Festival.

I live in TriBeca, NY with my powerhouse husband Michael Dorf, founder/CEO City Winery, and our children.

I started my path to filmmaking growing up in Brookline Massachusetts, exploring the arts as a flutist, a modern dancer, a writer, a reader, an avid moviegoer. I remember my parents watched a lot

of old movies on PBS. I loved the clever, enchanting women who ruled the plot, portrayed by Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis, Katherine Hephern, Elizabeth Taylor, Natalie Wood, and Audrey Hephern. I was hooked on the rhythms of great dialogue and performances in stories full of intrigue, crime, passion, and the drama of love over power and money or vice versa.

My home rarely felt like a refuge during the tensions of my childhood and adolesence, except when we watched films together. Time stood still in a world far more alluring than our own.

In the beginning

FUN FACTS

  • I listen to movie soundtracks by composers I’ve worked with while I write/work.

  • Zip Line Queen – Not clear why I am so good at this; I could could go pro or compete (if that exists).

  • The apple earpods — before they made them wireless — only worked if I wore them in the wrong ears. No idea why. but I always thought I have supersonic hearing.

  • When chopping fruits or veggies for a single serving, I use a not-so-sharp knife and cut towards my thumb, like a peasant in the old country. This must be due to watching my mom in the kitchen.

HARD FACT

My incredible mother Feiga Hollenberg Connors survived the Holocaust in Poland, and was the only one of her large family to make it to United States in 1947 at 14.5 yrs old.
